April 11th, 2016

The Beat Collective were out as Alive Network alter egos Backbeat this weekend, playing an engagement party for a great couple in North Yorshire. A fantastic way to celebrate the happy couples future together, and who knows, we may even be invited back for their wedding party. We’ve posted a snap of the night below.

We’ve been extremely busy over the last few months. The wedding season is in full swing, and we’ve travelled from Yorkshire to Shropshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Hampshire – all over the place these last few months. Things are really going to be exciting this weekend when the Tour de France hits Yorkshire, with The Beat Collective playing at Velofest In Skipton. Its going to be really exciting to see all the yellow bikes hanging in the surrounding villages, and we cant wait to entertain at what is sure to be a great atmosphere.

But the weddings are also still in full flow, with The Beat Collective travelling to Nottinghamshire this weekend, for a marquee wedding that promises to be great fun. Furthermore, we expect to have our new videos online by the end of next week, so keep checking back for updates.

Firework Display Concludes Amazing Birthday Party

May 12th, 2014

the beat collective yorkshires finest funciton and wedding band play a private party in shropshire with a great fireworks display

The last few weeks have been a busy time for The Beat Collective, Yorkshires finest wedding and function band. One of the most interesting and fun in recent times was at a 21st birthday party in Shropshire. Held in the back garden of the clients, there was a marquee dedicated to the performance of The Beat Collective, a barn complete with a bar, showcasing our performance on a big screen, a hog roast with all the trimmings, a tuck shop, a bouncy castle and an enormous firework display at the end of the night, as well as a fire juggler. Suffice to say, we had a fantastic night and it was a pleasure to be part of the twins special birthday evening.

Last weekend saw us play a wedding in Wakefield, Yorkshire, whilst this weekend we travel down the M1 to Derbyshire for a wedding. Things are really picking up now the wedding season is in full flow and long may it continue.

April 21st, 2014

The Beat Collective, Yorkshires finest function band, play at a retirement dinner in essex, in a marquee in a back garden

It was a great weekend of gigging again for The Beat Collective, Yorkshires finest function and wedding band. But don’t forget, its not just weddings and corporate do’s that we play. On Saturday, we took the long trip down from Leeds to Essex, to play a retirement dinner for a well respected Doctor. The party took place in a huge marquee in the good Doctors back garden, and revellers of all ages commented favourably on what a superb night of dancing they had. Congratulations to John for his successful practice he has built up over the years, it was a pleasure to be part of such a great event.

This weekend, we’re back to gigging locally, in Leeds and North Yorkshire respectively. Looking forward to it.

Tips For Booking Great Live Entertainment At Your Wedding

January 2nd, 2014

Wedding Band The Beat Collective Travel Narionwide and Know How to provide great wedding entertainment

We at The Beat Collective have been playing weddings for many years now. We’ve played to tens of thousands of happy guests in so many different settings, from Marquees and Tipi’s to Hotels and Mansions. For this reason, we are well positioned to advise potential clients on why they should consider booking a function band such as ourselves for their wedding, as well as answering a few questions we often get asked in the booking process.

Why Should I Book a Function Band?

The evening entertainment is often the part of the day that guests comment on the most – apart from how beautiful the bride looks of course. It’s the time of day when the food has settled, the alcohol is flowing and the evening guests arrive expecting to dance the night away. Of course, hiring a DJ does cover this requirement. But in our experience, and the experience of many of our clients, the DJ is often a lot less personal and can be a bit cheesy. When you hire a band, you can look over the set list, take out certain songs, request specific special tunes to be included, and have the band learn your first dance, making for a special, personal moment. Furthermore, with most bands such as The Beat Collective, there is a free iPod disco option included, saving potentially hundreds of pounds on a separate DJ – who will most likely be using the same system we do.

Aren’t Function Bands Expensive?

Some function bands can cost a lot of money. Some are overpriced, particularly the further south you go. But don’t always just go for the cheaper option. Don’t forget, you are looking to book professional musicians who will go that extra mile for you, not just a bunch of friends who want to make some quick cash. The Beat Collective all studied music to degree level, and spent months rehearsing the perfect set that we know is appreciated by all ages of wedding guests. Furthermore, we ensure the sound is perfectly balanced – loud on the dance floor but quiet enough off it so your more laid back guests can catch up and talk as we play, tapping their feet along whilst still being able to make conversation. Our thorough sound check ensures there’s no nasty feedback or dodgy equipment that could potentially ruin your evening.

Try to remember also that a band of five members will be arriving on a Saturday night at approximately 5pm, playing until midnight and packing down then leaving at around 1am. If you asked five plumbers to do the same job at that time on a Saturday night, you’d soon reconsider your opinion that hiring a professional function band is expensive. The Beat Collectives prices start at around £900, varying depending on location and personal requirements.

Won’t The Sound Check Disturb My Guests?

The sound check is an entirely necessary part of the bands set up. Without it, the instruments would sound unbalanced, and you wouldn’t get the top quality performance you are paying for. However, there are many ways of ensuring the band won’t disturb your guests. Some weddings have the breakfast in a separate room, which means we can sound check without you even knowing we are there.

Often, if the band are to play in the same room as the breakfast, the room will be ‘turned around’, ready for the evening guests to arrive. Whilst the staff do this and your guests retire to the bar, we will use this time to load in our equipment and sound check. When you and your guests return, the room will be transformed and we will be ready to perform for you.

If neither of these are an option, the band can turn up before the wedding even begins so that everything is ready for the day ahead. This will usually incur a greater cost, so check with your band before completing the booking.

Do I Have To Pay Everything Upfront?

No. In most cases, the band will ask for a deposit (in our case its 20% of the final fee) to be returned with the signed contract, with the rest of the balance payable on the day of the wedding. You may even be able to pay in instalments if this is preferred.

Is It Safe To Book A Wedding Band Direct?

Yes, absolutely. All our clients who have booked us direct have been extremely happy, and we are a reliable and honest band who have had years of experience doing this without any problems whatsoever. But always make sure to read the contract carefully. It is there to protect you as much as it is the band and is a legal document that both parties are agreeing to. Feel free to ask questions before signing and if something needs changing that the band have verbally agreed to, make sure they change the contract accordingly before signing.

If you really like the band you have found but prefer to go through an agency, then most bands can accommodate this (we do at The Beat Collective, just ask). Be aware that you may end up paying a touch more though, as the agency needs to take a cut too.

The Band I Like Are Based Up North But Our Wedding Is Down South – Will They Travel This Far?

Yes, most bands worth their salt will travel nationwide. The Beat Collective travel all over the UK and abroad, although prices do tend to rise the further a band has to travel, due to increased fuel and time required. Make sure you ask the band for their best price as they may be ale to help you out.

How Far In Advance Should I Book?

With just 20% of the full fee payable upfront, it makes sense to book your wedding band as soon as possible. At The Beat Collective, we have received enquiries for 2015 as far back as January 2013, and the best bands do tend to get booked up early on. So don’t delay, enquire today.

The Beat Collective are a cool, exciting and vibrant five piece function band. They are based in Leeds, Yorkshire, but travel nationwide, having played as far north as Glasgow and as far south as Cornwall last year. If you have a wedding or event coming up, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with them, via their website www.thebeatcollective.co.uk , email thebeatcollective@live.co.uk or contact Andy on 07921 170655.

Busy Christmas Period Concludes This Sunday

December 20th, 2013

The Beat Collective, Yorkshire premier function and wedding band, wow audiences at weddings and Christmas parties this DecemberThe Beat Collective have been extremely busy these last few weeks, juggling Christmas parties with a few December weddings thrown in for good measure. Its been a great month for us, playing mostly around Yorkshire and delighting revellers all over. We’ve managed to debut a few Christmas numbers, as well as learn the odd first dance for the weddings.

This Sunday see’s us play our final gig of 2013, where we will travel to one of our favourite venues Rudding Park in Harrogate.

2014  looks as though it will be equally busy – we’ve recently been rebooked for a few of the parties we’ve played and are already getting quotes for as early as February. In between, we are looking at producing a new promotional video and having a photo shoot in either January or February. Exciting times, watch this space.

The Beat Collective Wow Audience With Additional Vocalist and Brass Players

November 6th, 2013

Function and Wedding band The Beat Collective play in North Yorkshire for a birthday party Its been a while since we last posted on here, but thankfully its because we’ve been so busy of late. Our most recent gig can be seen in the photo on the left here. We played a Halloween themed Birthday party in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, to over 150 guests. The client took the option of having an extra female vocalist and two additional brass players, which produced a massive sound on stage. The feedback was overwhelming from the crowd, and it was great to have the extra musicians on stage.

Our busy weeks continue, but in the meantime, we will be spending some time learning Christmas songs, ready for the busy Christmas party period in December.
